We are thrilled and deeply honored to welcome Chester Whitmore, a true legend of swing dance, to Paris for this special occasion. Chester will join us to share his invaluable experience, bring his unique perspective, and celebrate the Jazz Roots Festival alongside us.

Chester Whitmore, who has been dancing since 1974 and is a protégé of Fayard Nicholas (of the legendary Nicholas Brothers). His energy and expertise will inspire and elevate the festival to new heights!

Ms. Barbara billups

Barbara Billups is a jazz dancer, educator, and cultural bearer whose work is deeply rooted in the African-American traditions that shaped jazz dance.

Over the years, she has played a significant role in sharing the cultural, rhythmic, and historical foundations of jazz, with a strong focus on musicality, rhythm, and embodied expression. Her approach highlights jazz as a living cultural practice, grounded in groove, improvisation, and lineage.

Barbara’s and Chester’s presence at Jazz Roots reflects the festival’s commitment to honoring history, authenticity, and the voices that have shaped jazz dance culture.

MC - AJ Howard

AJ Howard is a NYC-based Lindy Hop instructor and performer with nearly a decade of experience. His upbeat and energetic teaching style creates a fun and supportive environment for students to learn and grow. In addition to teaching and social dancing, AJ loves to compete and perform, and has placed at local and international competitions throughout his career. As a proud member of the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame, he is committed to sharing his joy of the dance with all, and helping dancers of all levels develop their skills on their own individual dance journeys.

We are thrilled to welcome AJ for the second consecutive year as our MC at the Jazz Roots Festival. His enthusiasm and passion make him the perfect guide to lead us through this unforgettable celebration!
